Program Overview


Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) is a is a program through which the Montana Department of Health and Human Services offers eligible participants discounts on their winter energy bills. This program is open to eligible residents throughout Montana.


Who is eligible for this program?


Homeowners and renters are eligible. Applicants must complete an application for assistance and supply a recent copy of their fuel bill and copies of income records. Households that receive benefits from Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program may qualify automatically for weatherization or fuel assistance. Eligible applicants must make no more than 150% of the federal poverty level: Family of one = $15,315 Family of two = $20,535 Family of three = $25,755 Family of four = $30,975 Family of five = $36,195 Family of six = $41,415 Family of seven = $46,635 Family of eight = $51,855 Family of nine = $57,075 Family of ten = $62,295

Benefit Details


Applications for weatherization assistance may be submitted at any time during the year. Applications for fuel bill assistance may be submitted from October 1 through April 30.
